phil moirDirector -  Elected June 2012, re-elected 2014

I bring to the board over 25 years of curling experience and expertise. I started curling in 1973 in Winnipeg as a fun activity with the Boy Scouts, and then played occasionally as a junior at various fun leagues, and school events. In 1993 I started to curl on a much more regular basis in the Halifax, Nova Scotia. This started first with fun work leagues and outings with friends and then as a regular member at 3 different Halifax metro curling clubs where I participated in numerous leagues, bonspiels, volunteering at several championships and assisting the junior program.

I moved to Denver in 2011 and joined the Denver Curling Club, where I volunteered at numerous corporate and public learn to curl events and was elected to the Board of Directors in 2012. Since that time I have been an active board member, addressing a wide range of ideas, plans and issues including our largest focus of realizing the dream of building a permanent curling rink. I am very proud to have had a part in this process, eagerly anticipating the October opening and that first slide on great ice. My particular focus has included contributions on the building committee, fund raising, communications via the newsletter and web site, as well as promoting the sport through learn to curl events. In 2013 I was certified as a USCA Course Conductor and Level 1 instructor, and I intend to do much more in the realm of teaching, coaching and instruction in the future. I was fortunate to participate in a few bonspiels and Championships (USCA Nationals, Arena Championship, KC Bonspiel, High Altitude, etc.) and while the results were less than I had hoped, it pointed to the fact that dedicated ice is mandatory if we truly hope to compete on a national basis, and myresolve is stronger now than ever to be a leader in that effort.
