Denver Skins Spiel - Sept. 22-24, 2017

Denver's newest bonspiel!

  • Curling starts Friday evening Sept 22 and will conclude early Sunday afternoon Sept 24.
  • Full teams are encouraged to sign up (individuals and less than full teams also welcome).
  • The bonspiel is open to curlers from anywhere looking to get some early season ice.

Skins is a fun format where the hammer changes each end and teams can score 1 of 2 ways.

  1. With the hammer you must count 2 or more at the conclusion of the end.
  2. Without the hammer you just have to steal to claim the point.

No worries about giving up a big end and a chance to go super aggressive the whole game with little risk.

Register here.

Cost: $90/person with a 3 game guarantee. Maximum of 20 teams.

Food throughout the weekend and prizes.

Rules for Skins Curling

The Skins format differs from regular curling in that a single point is awarded for each end that is won.
An end is won if the team with the hammer scores two or more points or the opposing team steals the end with at least one point. In some skins games the points carry over if an end is not won. We are not going to carry over points in this bonspiel.

This results in a very exciting offensive style of play where every end is like the final end of the game with teams going all out to win.

Games will be eight ends
A coin flip will determine the hammer and stone color. The team winning the coin flip can choose either:
(a) to throw first or second stone in the first end, or
(b) the rock color they wish to use

In a skins game teams play to win the end, not to accumulate a total score. To win an end:
The team that has the hammer must score at least two points.
The team without the hammer must steal at least one point.
If neither team wins the end, the end is blanked .
To keep track of the end winners, hang a score marker (reverse side of the numbers) beside your color as if you scored 1 point. You didn't actually score one point, however you did win 1 end.
The hammer:
If a team wins the end, the hammer goes to the other team in the next end.
If no team wins the end, the hammer changes teams for the next end.

The four-rock Free Guard Zone rule applies, as do all other standard curling rules.
