I am a retired engineer who spend the 70’s working my way through the Colorado School of Mines in Golden. I then spent 35 years learning business, engineering and project management. I would like to apply the skills I learned about teamwork, evaluation of alternatives and business processes to the management and administration of our DCC.
I started curling in high school (1968-70) in Ontario and thought I would never curl again when I moved to Colorado. In 2001, I was transferred from Melbourne Australia to Yellowknife, NWT, Canada to design and build underground diamond mines where I had the opportunity to start some casual curling when the job allowed. For the next 14 years I curled sporadically, made some great friends but never had the opportunity to improve my curling. In 2014 I retired, returned to Evergreen / Boulder and fortunately found that DCC was constructing the wonderful facility we now enjoy.
I curl on Tuesday morning, Tuesday evening and Thursday evening but also sub when I can on Saturday. I have taken the Level 1 Instructors and Ice Tech classes and now enjoy teaching the basics of curling and helping with ice prep. I work approximately 40 Learn to Curl / corporate events a year and enjoy watching the participants experience their first curling and their on-ice team interactions. I am encouraged to see repeat corporate groups and would like to develop an approach to convert these one-time experiences into new curb members.
This season I am doing about a half dozen out-of-town bonspiels and it has been great to meet other club curlers, to observe how they tackle club and event issues and to share the DCC approaches, successes and challenges I have observed. I have done all three of our club annual bonspiels each year and find it a great way to meet club members that I do not interact with during my regular league play or when I am behind the bar.
I am asking for your support to help the current Board:
Maintain the great momentum we have with our new facility
Retain our current member base and grow the club membership
Integrate your new ideas and requests into the solid approach established at DCC.
