Junior Programs

Mission Statement

The mission of the DCC Youth Curling Program is to introduce young people to curling as a fun, recreational sport, to engage students in skill development, and to provide a venue for organized games and competitive play.

Our Junior Programs

Denver Curling is excited to offer curling instruction for junior curlers from elementary school age up to age 21 (per USCA guidelines). Any junior with the interest to learn the game, play recreationally or develop their skills and be challenged to compete at their highest level is invited to join the DCC junior curling program. Our coaches provide support and inspiration to continue developing the necessary skills needed to become a confident curler and have lots of fun!  Whether you want to play recreationally or competitively, Denver Curling has great role-models for junior curlers. Whatever level of play you are striving for, our coaches are here to support and encourage you.

Denver Curling offers these junior programs

If you have never curled before, start with this class. If you are coming back after a break or have been part of another curling club, you may want to move into ATP (see below). Either way, we will help get you ready for play!

 3 - Advanced Training Program ( ATP)

If you have completed one of our junior beginner sessions and desire to play at a higher club level, ATP is the next step in our training programs.  This program is designed for juniors who have the desire to further their training from introductory sessions. This program is for recreational curlers who want to increase their skills or just have more time on the ice. ATP is also for juniors who aspire to play in bonspiels and leagues at Denver Curling Club.

- Our Winter 2024  6 week session will be held Jan. 6, 13, 27, Feb. 3, 10, 17.  We train on Saturdays from 10am-Noon.

Who is the Junior Competitive Program designed for?

This program is exclusively for juniors interested in becoming national level competitive curlers.  This is not designed for juniors who want to focus on playing recreationally and going to the occasional bonspiel (we encourage the ATP program for that).  We will be preparing them for the U18 National Championships and eventually Junior Nationals (those under 21). Boys and girls teams may train together or with dedicated coaches (if applicable).

What are the prerequisites for the Junior Competitive Program (JCP)?

1. ATP Junior coaches approval and JCP coaches approval.  Our Saturday morning programs are designed for teaching the delivery and the basics of the game to be a successful bonspiel and league player.  In some instances, we may ask juniors to continue solely in the ATP program to continue skill-building to a certain level rather than be frustrated with the advanced techniques taught in this program.

2. Commitment from the junior to attend the sessions and utilize available DCC practice ice to work on the skills taught between sessions.  Ultimately this program will be to prepare each junior for competitive curling and to form teams.  Therefore, there is an individual and a team component responsibility.

3. Starting Oct. 2021, the junior must be playing in at least 1 regular DCC league outside of juniors.

4. Juniors playing in DCC "adult" leagues requires a Junior Membership. The cost is $75/year.
