Committees

Did you know?

Denver Curling Club is a non-profit organization. This club was built and runs souley on volunteer support. If it weren't for the members that built this club literally from the ground up, we would not be here today.

We encourage our members to get involved with various activities that help keep the club running smoothly. Please send us an email that indicates where you are interested in contributing your time and energy. If you have a particular strength that you think would help us, we want to hear from you!

Please take some time to review the committees below and signup for a group that fits your skills! As a committee member, you can expect to:

  1. Attend one committee meeting per month
  2. Help lead and/or organize committee projects.
  3. Spend 3-10 hours a month (depending on club needs or on-goings)
  4. Work as a group to create proposals for approval by membership and board of directors.
  5. Lend a helping hand to a club that can be another family to you.

Curling is more than a sport. It is a community of people who are brought together by the spirit of curling and the love of the game. Show your support back if you have the time.

The more you know

Thank you!

Board member duties and expectations

  • Board service is a form of volunteerism that can have a huge impact on the organization, but if you think that your sense of personal fulfillment requires a more hands-on volunteer opportunity, you might want to consider becoming a member of one of the committees instead of board service.
  • Board members are legally required to fulfill their fiduciary duties, which will require you to devote a considerable amount of time to the organization. The amount of time varies by role, but simply planning to attend the board meetings is not sufficient.
  •  Board members must be willing to regularly review financial statements and meeting materials, and many board members will need to prepare for and attend committee meetings in addition to board meetings.
  • Boards are teams of committed and engaged individuals who work together to govern the organization. If you prefer to work alone, then board service may not be the right way for you to work with the organization.
  • Board membership is not just an honorary position, a social activity with friends, or a simple team exercise. Above all, it comes with legal expectations and liabilities. This is the most important concept to understand about board service. Every board member is responsible for his or her own actions — or failure to act — on the board.
  • Board service is probably the most demanding volunteer activity. To best serve the board and the organization, follow these tips:
    • Accept committee and board assignments with enthusiasm — and then follow through. Use all your professional skills to draft recommendations, carry out tasks, and help the board do its work between meetings.
    • Come to meetings prepared; ask questions when something seems unusual or when you do not understand something.
    • Be prepared to respect and learn from different viewpoints on the board while participating in robust discussions to find the best options for the organization.

Membership & Leagues

Registration: 2025 - 2026 registration is now open for returning players.  New member league registration opens Aug 18th.

Membership and Full Season Leagues:
  • Returning members that register during the first phase will get their places back in the same leagues from last season.
  • New members will be able to register after returning members have registered. *New members need to have curling experience to play in DCC leagues.

*Curling experience is anyone that has curled in a league before at any curling club or someone that has completed a 5-6 week instructional mini-league in the last year. Open-house events and 2-hour learn-to-curl events are NOT considered enough instruction to be able to curl in a full-season league. You must have some curling experience to sub or practice.

Subbing:  Teams are always looking for a sub when someone is away or sick.  Select the leagues in which you're willing to help. You can sign up for as many leagues as you wish.

History

Denver curling 1987 rink

Denver Curling was originally established in 1965. In 1987 Denver Curling enjoyed the benefits of dedicated ice near I-70 and Quebec when it opened a 4 sheet facility in a renovated warehouse

In its recent past, the Denver Curling Club was home to three Women's US National Champion teams who went on to compete at the World Championships and two Mixed US national champion teams. The DCC sent curlers to US Junior Nationals, and we were represented well in many bonspiels throughout the country.

When those doors shut because of a dwindling curling community and resources, Denver lost a unique pastime. In 2007, as a result of the overwhelming interest in curling during the 2006 Turin, Italy Winter Olympics, Denver Curling decided to resurrect itself. What started with 36 dedicated curlers blossomed into a curling community with over 300 active curlers. From 2007-2013 the Denver Curling Club curled on rented ice at the Ice Ranch in Highlands Ranch two nights a week but reached capacity due to the limited availability of ice rental. The new Denver Curling Center opened in October 2014 and ushered in a new era of increased interest and availability of curling in Denver.

The Denver Curling continues to develop programs and raise awareness by offering opportunities for youth, the disabled, adult, senior, and local businesses to learn the game of curling and refine their skills of leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship and communication. With the evolved group of leadership the Denver Curling  has developed a diverse membership demographic.
